<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clean the environment of a space such as a room by utilizing a photocatalyst material which exhibits photocatalyst function even under conditions of a weak ultraviolet intensity. <P>SOLUTION: The composite material having photocatalysis is prepared by forming a photocatalyst layer containing nearly rectangularly parallelepiped or elipsoidal anatase titanium oxide photocatalyst particles having an aspect ratio (a/b) of 1 to 4.5 [wherein (a) is the length, and (b) is the breadth] on the surface of a substrate. The composite material can produce an effective oxidation decomposition effect when it is simply irradiated with an ultraviolet radiation of an intensity as low as, for example, 0.05 to 100 μW/cm<SP>2</SP>, desirably, 1 to 50 μW/cm<SP>2</SP>. This cleans the environment of an ordinary residential room when the composite member having a photocatalyst layer of a simple shape and structure is set in the room in addition to an illuminator. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
