PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-color light-emitting element which has good luminous characteristics such as maximum luminance and luminous efficiency. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element has at least one layer of organic layer including a luminous layer between a pair of electrodes and contains at least one compound as expressed by a general formula (1) in the organic layer. In the general formula (1), R<SP>11</SP>expresses a substituted group, X<SP>11</SP>, X<SP>12</SP>, X<SP>13</SP>, and X<SP>14</SP>express respectively nitrogen atom or substituted or unsubstituted carbon atom, M<SP>11</SP>expresses a metal ion, and n<SP>11</SP>and n<SP>12</SP>express respectively 0 or 1, and when n<SP>11</SP>is 1, n<SP>12</SP>is 0.
