PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display controller which can be readily realized in terms of hardware, can suppress flickering in image display and can suppress color clipping. SOLUTION: The image display controller is provided with: a characteristic value calculation part 21 which calculates a characteristic value on the basis of an input signal; a conversion characteristic calculation part 22 which determines a conversion characteristic from the characteristic value; and a signal conversion part 23 which converts the input signal according to the determined conversion characteristic. The conversion characteristic has a low level region segment close to the origin, a high level region segment close to a full scale, and a middle level region segment disposed between the low level region and high level region, and the tilt in the middle level region is set to be larger than both of the tilt of the low level region and the high level region.
