<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which is advantageous for photographing a satisfactory image without being affected by linearly polarized light from a subject image. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus 100 has a lens barrel 10 built in a case 11, and a photographic optical system 12, an imaging device 14, and a dimming means 16 are incorporated in the lens barrel 10. The dimming means 16 is arranged on an optical axis 2 and adjusts the quantity of light reaching the imaging device 14 through the photographic optical system 12 and comprises a depolarizer 20, a liquid crystal optical element 18, a polarizer 22, a stop 24, and a driving mechanism 26. The depolarizer 20 is arranged in a position of an optical path of the light incidence surface side of the liquid crystal optical element 18 and is so constituted that completely or partially polarized light being polarized light included in light incident on the depolarizer 20 is converted to a non-polarized light and is emitted to the liquid crystal optical element 18. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
