PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting method for steel by which press cracking is prevented to further improve sheet workability. SOLUTION: The continuous casting method for steel is characterized in that argon gas is blown into a poured stream of molten steel from a tundish 1 to a casting mold 5, that a continuous casting powder is used having a viscosityηof 8 poises or higher at 1,300°C, and that blowing quantity V<SB>Ar</SB>of argon gas (liter/min) into the poured stream of the molten steel is within the range of the expression, V<SB>Ar</SB>≤0.3×η+0.5. In addition, the casting speed v<SB>C</SB>(m/min) is within the range of the expression, v<SB>C</SB>≤(0.0527×2×60×S×η)/(W×T) (where W is a slab width (m), T is a slab thickness (m), and S is a discharge port cross section (m<SP>2</SP>) of a submerged nozzle).
