Inspection device (1) for bottles (2) or similar containers has an illumination arrangement (4) for transmission and incident light illumination and at least one image registering arrangement (5). The latter is designed to permit imaging of the bottle contour and labels on its surface. Optical means (6) are provided that enable illumination of the bottle with both transmission and incident light with only a single illumination source.
