A hotmelt textile spinning assembly (2, 4) generates a filament yarn (3) or cable (5) that is surrendered to a treatment assembly (6, 6'). The treatment assembly forms a series of weak links in the filament or cable by application of mechanical loads that cut or bend. In a further embodiment the filament or cable is distorted by exposure to compressed air, high temperature, a plasma beam or an electron beam. The filament yarn (3) or filament cable (5) pass through a chamber in which they are exposed to a plasma flame or electron beam that forms randomly distributed weak sections. In a further embodiment the fibre or cable passes through a heated ring. The textile assembly further incorporates a stretching station and a crinkling station.
