PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display is provided to improve the quality of display by improving deviation of gray scale and reducing a difference in thickness of a liquid crystal layer. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display has a liquid crystal layer interposed between a pair of substrates(SUB1,SUB2), a plurality of pixel areas, pixel electrodes(PX) and opposite electrodes(CT) formed at each pixel area of the liquid crystal layer on one substrate. The opposite electrode has a plurality of first and second pixels. A distance from one substrate(SUB1) to the opposite electrodes at the first pixel corresponding to an X area is longer than at the second pixel corresponding to an Y area. A distance between the opposite electrodes at the first pixel is shorter than at the second pixel.
