PURPOSE: A data processing system and method, a storage medium, and a program of executing the data processing method are provided to select, reproduce and transmit a summary, a highlighted picture or only a desired picture during media contents reproducing time and control the quantity of transmitted data in response to traffic of a communication line between a user and a server. CONSTITUTION: A data processing system includes an input unit for receiving context contents description data described in a hierarchical structure. The hierarchical structure includes the highest layer, the lowest layer and other layers. The highest layer is composed of a single element representing media contents. The lowest layer is composed of an element representing a segment of media contents corresponding to a variation between pictures of video data or a variation in audible tone. Each of the other layers is composed of an element representing a picture or a set of pictures. A score corresponding to the context of a picture of interest is added to the element of each of the other layers as an attribute. A score about time information on a corresponding media segment and contexts is added to the element of the lowest layer as an attribute. The system further includes a selector for selecting at least one segment from the media contents based on a score allocated to the context contents description data.
