PURPOSE: A combustion control device in opening and closing a door of a gas oven and a method thereof are provided to improve convenience and the reliability, and to optimize flavor of food by automatically extinguishing a burner in opening the grill door and automatically cooking food by closing the door and operating the cooking starting switch without inputting the remaining time additionally. CONSTITUTION: A grill operation control unit of a microcomputer ignites a grill burner in turning on a cooking starting switch and closing the grill door, and detects closing of the grill door while automatically cooking food by the grill for the predetermined time. The grill burner is turned off in opening the grill door while automatically cooking by the grill, and a timer for counting automatic grill cooking time is stopped. After memorizing remaining time, closing of the door and the state of the cooking starting switch are detected again. The grill burner is ignited again in closing the door and turning on the cooking starting switch for the predetermined time, and the timer is operated. Opening of the door is detected continuously by automatically cooking food in the grill for the remaining time.
