PURPOSE: A washing machine for selecting kinds of textiles and a control method thereof are provided to perform an optimal washing operation for each kind of textiles and to prevent damages of the textiles by selecting a washing course according to the kinds of the textiles and guiding knowledge related to the washing operation and an optimal washing course according to the selected textile. CONSTITUTION: A washing machine for selecting kinds of textiles is composed of a memory unit(21) for storing information about a washing operation including washing course guide information for each kind of the textiles and a textile-kind selection menu; a display unit(22) for displaying the washing course guide information for each kind of the textiles and the textile-kind selection menu; a user interface unit(23) for inputting an operation order of the washing machine having a display order of a textile-kind selection menu by the user; load(24) having a motor of the washing machine; and a control unit(25) for reading and displaying the textile-kind selection menu on the display unit from the memory unit according to the order of the user through the user interface unit. The control unit displays the washing course guide information corresponding to the kinds of the textiles chosen by the user from the textile-kind selection menu on the display unit, and controls the load to execute the washing operation according to the washing course selected by the user according to the washing course guide information. |
