PURPOSE: A laundry amount-sensing method of a washing machine is provided to quickly damp the surplus power of a motor and to accurately detect the amount of the laundry by detecting the laundry amount by rotating the motor in one direction, deciding a braking condition according to the laundry amount, and rotating reverse the motor after stopping completely motor. CONSTITUTION: A laundry amount-sensing method of a washing machine is composed of steps for detecting the amount of the laundry by turning on/off a motor to rotate the motor in one direction(S1); deciding if the motor is braked or not according to the detected laundry amount; braking the motor by turning on/off the motor to rotate the motor in the opposite direction if the motor is determined to brake(S6,S7); and sensing the amount of the laundry by turning on/off the motor for set times to rotate reverse the motor after braking the motor(S8). |
