<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric motor driven drop bolt in which a drop bolt is moved smoothly in any state of a door, and in which it is efficiently actuated with slight solenoid force. <P>SOLUTION: This electric motor driven drop bolt comprises a case to be installed on a door or the like when used. When a bolt in the case is set to an operative position in a cage, it is pivotal by a mechanical drive unit of an electric motor drive type. The bolt is pivotal between a locked state and an unlocked state. In the locked state, the bolt is protruded from the case to be engaged with a hole in the door. In the unlocked state, the bolt retracts from the hole, and a screw shaft of the drive unit is rotated by an electric motor to move a roller nut lengthwise along the screw shaft, so that it is engaged with a cam surface of the bolt to generate fail-safe operation of the bolt. The cage is slidable from the operative position to a disengaged position in the case.
