PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a mat for plant raising, which has biodegradability by using material wood, etc., as a main raw material, significantly simplifies a production process, reduces a manufacturing cost thereby and readily enlarges uses and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The mat 10 for plant raising is formed by using ground wood 1 as a main raw material made by grinding material wood or lumber and solidifying the ground wood using an adhesive such as a thermosetting resin-based adhesive and is composed of a single layer consisting of all raw materials containing the ground wood 1 in a raw material composition. Granular charcoal 3 and the adhesive 4 having a fertilizer response component to leaves are added as the raw materials. The mat 10 for plant raising changes physical properties of a mat upper part 1A and a mat lower part 1B by heating conditions and controls promotion of rooting of plant roots and projection inhibition of roots to the outside of the mat.
