PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate an evaluation value faithfully corresponding to subjective glossiness in a glossiness evaluation apparatus for calculating the evaluation value related to the glossiness of a matter. SOLUTION: In a linear conversion part 72, the mirror surface glossiness GS, which is based on regularly reflected light L3 obtained in a mirror surface glossiness conversion part 56, is converted to a glossiness index value GU so that the relation between the mirror surface glossiness GS and subjective glossiness becomes linear. In a linear conversion part 74, tristimulus values X, Y and Z based on the diffused reflected light L4 obtained in a color conversion part 66 are converted to luminocity L, chroma C and a hue (h). In a glossiness evaluation value acquiring part 78, the glossiness index value GU is multiplied by a predetermined weight coefficient so that a glossiness evaluation value VG becomes large as the glossiness index value GU becomes large, becomes small as the luminosity L becomes large and becomes large as the chroma C becomes large and the linear sum of the values multiplied by the weight coefficient is taken to calculate the glossiness evaluation value VG capable of reducing the effect of the color of an object to be measured.
