PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve mechanism driving device for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine capable of restraining a shock in changing an operating condition for each cylinder group. SOLUTION: The first cylinder group (a second cylinder 2b and a third cylinder 2c) and the second cylinder group (a first cylinder 2a and a fourth cylinder 2d) are respectively provided with control shafts 134, 136. Thus as a first intermediative driving mechanism 110 and a second intermediative driving mechanism 120 can be individually driven, a valve lift amount can be continuously changed for each cylinder group. Accordingly as the operating conditions for each cylinder group can be changed smoothly, the shock can be restrained with smooth change in output torque even in starting of a cylinder reducing process, changing a cylinder reducing objective or returning from cylinder reducing operation.
