PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact treated material used as a component of a catalyst for addition polymerization having an excellent polymerization activity, a catalyst component for the addition polymerization composed of the contact treated material, a catalyst for the addition polymerization using the catalyst component for the addition polymerization and a method for producing an addition polymer using the catalyst for the addition polymerization. SOLUTION: The contact treated material is obtained by bringing the following components (a), (b), (c) and (d) into contact. (a) BiL<SP>1</SP><SB>r</SB>, (b) R<SP>1</SP><SB>s-1</SB>T<SP>1</SP>H, (c) R<SP>2</SP><SB>t-2</SB>T<SP>2</SP>H<SB>2</SB>and (d) R<SP>3</SP><SB>d</SB>AlY<SB>3-d</SB>(wherein, r denotes the valence of Bi; L<SP>1</SP>denotes a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group or a hydrocarbonoxy group; T<SP>1</SP>and T<SP>2</SP>denote each independently a group 15 or a group 16 nonmetal atom of the periodic table; s denotes the valence of T<SP>1</SP>; t denotes the valence of T<SP>2</SP>; R<SP>1</SP>denotes an electron attractive group or a group containing the electron attractive group; R<SP>2</SP>denotes a hydrocarbon group; d denotes a number satisfying 0<d≤3; R<SP>3</SP>denotes a hydrocarbon group; and Y denotes a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a hydrocarbonoxy group).
