PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain new fullerene whisker which is expected to be useful for various uses as a new functional material and to provide a method for efficiently producing the fullerene whisker. SOLUTION: The fullerene whisker is composed of a fullerene derivative obtained by chemically modifying fullerene. The method for producing the fullerene whisker comprises chemically modifying fullerene with a malonic acid derivative such as a 1-4C alkyl group-containing malonic acid dialkyl ester, etc., to give the fullerene derivative, dissolving the derivative in a good solvent to give its solution, bringing the solution into contact with a poor solvent of the fullerene derivative to form a liquid-liquid interface between the good solvent solution and the poor solvent and precipitating the whisker composed of the fullerene derivative in the liquid-liquid interface.
