<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of which the display characteristics are improved and the thickness is reduced by aligning a liquid crystal so as to form a retardation layer inside a cell without forming a new alignment layer and a method for forming the same. <P>SOLUTION: The alignment layer to align the liquid crystal is not separately formed but instead a color filter 21 or a protective film 22 composed of resin on the counter substrate side is effectively utilized. More specifically, by rubbing a surface of the color filter 21 or of the protective film 22, applying an ultraviolet curable liquid crystal thereto, aligning the liquid crystal in a specified direction via annealing treatment and curing the liquid crystal with an ultraviolet ray to form the retardation layer 25, and thus the retardation layer is fabricated inside the cell at a low cost. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
