<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and surely decide direction and distance between a capillary and a picture recognition system. <P>SOLUTION: The tip of the capillary 5 is a direction distance D apart from the optical axis of the image recognition system. A wire bonder has equipment, which is equipped with a mainframe 10 including an optical marking and two stopping surfaces 12, 13 which always enable re-calibration of the direction distance D. A control program is set to move the capillary toward the first stopping surface 12, to determine a first coordinate x<SB>c</SB>of the position of a bond head 1, when it is brought into contact, to move it toward the second stopping surface 13 further, and to determine a second coordinate y<SB>c</SB>when it is brought into contact with the stopping surface. Coordinates (x<SB>A</SB>, y<SB>A</SB>) of the bond head is set to determine so that the optical axis 8 passes an optical marking 11 at a predetermined point.
