PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque control device and a torque control method for an engine capable of changing order of priority of accelerating performance and operability according to a driving condition and improving travel feeling with reflecting intention of a driver sufficiently. SOLUTION: A plurality of correlations between pedal depression amounts of an accelerator and engine torque amounts are established according to steering wheel angles and vehicle speed. The torque control device for the engine uses one of the plurality of the established correlations based on detection results of steering wheel angles and vehicle speed and a target value of engine torque amount according to detected depression amount of the accelerator is calculated.
