PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a junction structure in which heads of junction bolts are favorably contained without protruding from steel pipe columns, in which rigidity can be secured, and in which junction work can be facilitated. SOLUTION: An inner junction metal fitting 3 and an outer junction metal fitting 4 of cast steel that are to be engaged with each other are used. One is welded with a lower end of the upper square steel pipe column 1, and the other is welded with an upper end of the lower square steel pipe column 2. The outer junction metal fitting 4 is formed cylindrical having an octagonal cross section. Four faces of its outside surface are positioned roughly in the same plane as four side surfaces of the square steel pipe columns 1 and 2. The other four faces are positioned to be recessed from angular parts of the square steel pipe columns 1 and 2. The inner junction metal fitting 3 is formed octagonal in such a way that its outside surface is engaged in the outer junction metal fitting 4. Column wall parts of the four faces corresponding to the angular parts of the square steel pipe columns 1 and 2 are formed thick. Both junction metal fittings 3 and 4 are jointed with each other by inserting the junction bolts through the pipe wall parts of the inner and the outer junction metal fittings 3 and 4 corresponding to the angular parts of the square steel pipe columns 1 and 2.
