PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plaster for external application and a method for suppressing the esterification of a drug in the plaster for external application capable of suppressing skin disorders while tackiness and feeling of use or the like are preferably kept and also capable of suppressing esterification of a carboxylic acid type non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent and l-menthol in a paste composition. SOLUTION: In the plaster for external application obtained by providing a paste layer on a supporting body, the paste composition forming the paste layer comprises a compound represented by the following formula (I), the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent having a carboxylic acid group in a molecule, 1-menthol and a nonaqueous base agent, and comprises≥2 mass% compound represented by the formula (I) to the total of the paste composition. The formula (I) is expressed as: R-O-(C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>4</SB>O)<SB>n</SB>-R' (wherein R and R' are each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an alkylcarbonyl group and n is a number of 1-600).
