<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for easily and accurately discriminating keloid from hypertrophic scar. <P>SOLUTION: The method to determine a scar as keloid or not contains (1) a step of preparing a determination specimen, (2) a step of determining the expression quantity of at least one gene product among gene products selected from periostin, fibronectin 1, O-bonded mannose-β-1,2 N-acetylglycosaminyl transferase, minecan, lumicane, serine protease 11, a gene product identified by the Gene Bank accession No. BC032839 and type-15 collagen α-1 chain, and (c) a step of comparing the determined expression quantity of at least one gene product of the specimen originated from lesion tissue with the expression quantity in a specimen originated from normal tissue to judge whether the specimen is keloid positive or not. The hitherto very difficult diagnosis of keloid and hypertrophic scar can be easily and accurately carried out to enable the proper treatment of keloid. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
