PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steer-by-wire type steering device for a vehicle capable of preventing the generation of vibration by giving a driver same steering reaction force feeling by transmitting steered axial force to the steering wheel side in the same way as the usual mechanical connection type steering device, and securing stability of the control system. SOLUTION: A first ECU310 generates a steered position command indicating the target steered position based on the steering angle of a steering wheel 10, and performs position feedback control of a steering mechanism 200 based on the steered position command and an actual steered position of the steering mechanism 200. The steering device for the vehicle is operationally connected with the steering wheel 10 through a torsion bar 13, and is equipped with a reaction force motor 14 applying the reaction force to the steering wheel based on the steered axial force which the steering mechanism 200 receives from the road surface side. A rotating angle sensor 19 for detecting the steering angle of the steering wheel 10 is provided at the secondary side of the torsion bar 13 interposed between the steering wheel 10 and the reaction force motor 14.
