PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autofocus camera and a range-finding system realizing speeding-up and high accuracy without causing malfunction by combining different systems. SOLUTION: A photographic lens 2 is focused by a CPU 10 and a lens driver 9 according to the output of the contrast signal of an object image obtained through the lens 2 as a 1st optical path. A distance to the object is measured by an external light range-finding device 14 in a 2nd optical path different from the lens 2, and the lens 2 is focused according to the output of the device 14. The CPU 10 performs focusing by prioritizing focusing by the 1st path before operating a second release switch 10b and preferentially focusing by the 2nd optical path after operating the switch 10b.
