PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To still more enhance production efficiency in the coating of a vehicle by rapidly starting coating work for a protective layer-forming material to shorten a process for applying the protective layer-forming material. SOLUTION: When the vehicle 14 passes through a vehicle detecting part 204, that is, the emitted light from a light emitting element 200 is cut off without arriving at a light detecting element 202, a control part 18 issues a command for robots 16a, 16b and 16c to start warming-up operation. Slight time is taken until the protective layer-forming material supplied from a tube 22a bleeds on the surface of a roller 48 but, by performing the warming-up operation, coating work can be started immediately.
