PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide drain water overflow preventing device that prevents drain water from overflowing even when a drain pan is either a pail type (including shallow types) or a cross groove type, even when drain water remains inside a washing machine when abnormal water level is detected, and even when a washing machine user cannot hear an alarm, and that can be installed with very low construction cost compared with water-service work. SOLUTION: When a low water level detecting section 10 detects a water level an output signal is fed to an abnormal water level detecting section 3 and the section 3 determines that the low water level is an abnormal level and ejects an alarm (sound, light, etc.). When the water level further increases and a high water level detecting section 11 detects the water level the output signal is fed to the abnormal water level detecting section 3 and the section 3 determines that it is an abnormal high water level and sends a power supply interception and control signal to a power supply part 2 with shielding mechanism and the part 2 intercepts the power supply to the washing machine. With the power supply intercepted the washing machine closes a water supply valve and a water drain valve inside the washing machine and stops the dehydrating movement so that the draining from the washing machine stops and the drain water overflow from a washing machine pan 9 is prevented from occurring.
