Method for operating a direct fuel-injection four-stroke combustion engine in which during engine coasting after switching off of the engine in a final phase of the coasting the pressure in the air intake region of the engine is at least partially influenced over time. An independent claim is made for a method for operating a direct fuel-injection combustion engine in which the pressure in a cylinder is regulated in conjunction with the fuel delivery quantity and the position of the crankshaft. The last rotations of the crankshaft, after the engine is switched off, are used to produce a negative pressure in the air intake.
