<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of avoiding a situation in which an abnormal image is generated due to the deterioration of an LD in the middle of printing by enabling a user to securely grasp the remaining life of the LD. <P>SOLUTION: A beam-emitting time calculating section 1011 in an estimated time measuring section 101 calculates a laser beam emitting time of the LD 13, and an estimating section 1012 estimates the calculated laser beam emitting time and stores the calculated time in a beam-emitting time storage section 122. A remaining time calculating section 102 calculates the remaining time from the estimated time to a designed life on the basis of information about the designed life of the LD 13 stored in a designed life storage section 12 and information about the estimated time of laser beam emitting measured by the measuring section 101.
