PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide which has a high wavelength selection ratio by an easy method without increasing the aspect ratio of a diffraction grating. SOLUTION: Realized is an optical waveguide which is a ridge type optical waveguide having a surface unevenness periodic structure in a diffraction grating shape on a core layer, and also has the optical coupling efficiency improved to have a high wavelength selection ratio by forming an unevenness periodic structure synchronized with the unevenness periodic structure even on the flank 4 of the core layer 1 and clad layers 2a and 2b surrounding it. The formation of the synchronized unevenness periodic structure is easily realized by forming a ridge shape after the unevenness periodic structure as the diffraction grating is uniformly formed in a surface, and the optical waveguide which has the high wavelength selection ratio can be provided by the easy method.
