PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide metal powder from whose compression molded body, before resin curing, a pressed powder magnetic core of high density having good properties can be obtained by suppressing density variation as a pressed powder magnetic core, while reducing an amount of resin used, to provide a method for manufacturing the metal powder, and to provide a method for manufacturing the pressed powder magnetic core employing the metal powder. SOLUTION: The metal powder for the pressed powder magnetic core is provided with coating on its surface of phenol resin comprising a methylol radical in a molecule thereof, with the contents of the 0.05-0.4 percent phenol resin by mass. The pressed powder magnetic core can be manufactured by curing the phenol resin contained in the compression molded body of the metal powder for the pressed powder magnetic core.
