PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet head exhibiting excellent response and print quality in which clogging of a nozzle and incomplete ink ejection are eliminated. SOLUTION: A shallow common ink chamber 16 is provided on the common ink chamber 6 side of an ink supply opening part 9 for supplying ink from the common ink chamber 6 of an ink jet head to a plurality individual ink chambers 5. The shallow common ink chamber 16 has single channel parts 70 and 74, and a bypass channel part consisting of a plurality of columnar protrusions 77 formed at middle positions of the single channel part wherein the diagonal length of the rectangular cross-section of each bypass is set shorter than the diameter of an ink nozzle 8. Foreign substances of such a size as causing clogging of the ink nozzle are captured in each bypass channel. Since acoustic resistance and inertance at the single channel part 70 of the ink supply opening part 9 are different from those at the bypass channel where a columnar protrusion 76 is formed, both response and print quality of the ink jet head are improved.
