PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telescopic mechanical pencil, which is made shorter and handy to carry and, at the same time, almost all the constitutional parts of which are made of a resin and given shapes full of idea. SOLUTION: This mechanical pencil comprises a resin-molded middle shaft with a resin-molded mouth piece detachably attached to a tip, a resin-molded shaft coupling fixed at the inside tip part of the middle shaft, a resin-molded sliding shaft, which slides by a certain distance at the rear position within the shaft coupling, a lead delivering mechanism provided between the tip of a lead tank and the mouth piece, a resin-molded over-cup fixed to the rear end part of the sliding shaft and a resin-molded top plug provided at the rear end part of the over-cup. Suspending projections provided around the lead tank and catching projections provided around the sliding shaft are put temporarily in a suspendingly attached state under the condition that the over-cup is in an elongated state and then the lead delivering mechanism is made to be freely operable by knocking the top plug and, after that, by pressing the top plug stronger than the knocking, the suspending attachment of the mutual projections is released, resulting in shortening the axial length of the pencil.
