PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To support a workpiece certainly and in a properly positioned state in the case of carrying out outer peripheral surface work with a groove of the workpiece having the groove on it outer peripheral surface as its standard. SOLUTION: This device grinds and works an outer peripheral surface of an inner ring 1 of a constant speed universal joint with its groove standard. It is furnished with a main spindle 11 to be rotationally driven, a fixed device 12 to face against it and a grinding wheel 13. The main spindle 11 is furnished with a packing member 20 to strike the inner ring 1 and a standard ring 18 having precision against a center of the main spindle. A slider 55 to be driven to advance and retreat by a hydraulic cylinder 54 is loaded on the fixed device 12. A workpiece pusher 61 to sandwich the inner ring 1 in cooperation with the packing member 20 by making contact with the inner ring 1, a plurality of spherical bodies 82 for positioning to center the inner ring 1 against the main spindle 11 in cooperation with the standard ring 18, a hydraulic cylinder 88 to drive these spherical bodies 82 for positioning to advance and retreat against the slider 55, etc., are loaded on this slider 55.
