Security element for securities, valuable documents, etc. has at least one security feature formed by magneto-optical memory region. Preferably there is second optically variable security feature. Typically magneto-optical memory region has reflection layer, locally magnetisable ferromagnetic layer and optically active layer. Optically variable security feature may be formed by diffraction structure, visible in reflection, containing metal layer forming at the same time reflection layer of memory region. Independent claims are included for security paper, valuable document, method for inscribing security element and its read-out and use of security element.
