<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain skin bleaching composition, to provide a use of the composition as a cosmetic, and a method for suppressing melanogenesis using the composition. <P>SOLUTION: The skin bleaching composition contains a plant extract selected from those of asparagus, black cohosh or their mixture, wherein the extract is obtained by sequentially exposing the plant or its part to two or more solvents having varying solvent strengths. The root and seedling portions of the plant can be separately used to obtain the extract. The composition can be topically applied to human skin and can further contain one or more cosmetically acceptable ingredients. The method for suppressing the melanogenesis includes topically applying to the skin the composition comprising the extract of plant selected from asparagus, black cohosh or their mixture obtained by sequentially exposing the plants to two or more solvents having varying solvent strengths. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
