<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide processing for achieving the batch performance of, especially, a complicated character string operation and a plurality of operations by piling up simple definitions, concerning a method for operating (working/preserving/linking) existing character strings in a computer. <P>SOLUTION: A single operation such as working/preserving/linking, etc. is applied to the inputted character string so as to generate the definition of the processing for outputting the character string after the operation. The definition of the single operation is piled on other single operations, so that the complicated character string operation and a plurality of operations are performed collectively. The whole single operations are defined basically including one character string input, a character string operation, and one character string output, which are freely combined. The definition of the single operation and the piled definitions are preliminarily generated and preserved.
