PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller in which the slip of a stepless speed change gear can be easily and accurately detected, and clamping force can be set. SOLUTION: The controller of the stepless speed change gear detects the required clamping force owing to the change in behavior accompanied by lowering the clamping force to set torque capacity. The controller is provided with a condition judgment means to judge by the condition judgment means (step S4) that a gear change demand value for the stepless speed change gear is not less than the predetermined value at an up-shift side, and is provided with a narrow pressure lowering means (step S6) to lower the clamping pressure for detecting the required clamping pressure when judged by the condition judgment means that the gear change demand value for the stepless speed change gear is less than the predetermined value.
