PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce friction resistance between the inner peripheral face of a housing and a vane or improve the wear resistance thereof. SOLUTION: This rotary damper comprises a shaft 53 for generating damping force with operating oil distributed between two oil chambers during oscillation of a vane 75 parting hydraulic pressure 74 in the housing 52 in two and for oscillatably supporting the vane on the housing while connecting thereto the base of the vane in a fixed condition. The shaft 53 is protruded at one end only outward from the housing. Surface treatment for reducing friction resistance or for reducing wear is applied to the inner peripheral face of the housing located at one end of the shaft out of the outer peripheral faces of the housing to be slid with the vane to form a surface treatment portion 74c. Thus, friction resistance between the inner peripheral face of the housing and the vane is reduced or wear resistance thereof is improved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
