PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems of a conventional seat reclining device with a load adjusting function wherein folding of a seat depends solely on the repulsion of a plate spring, the impact of the folding may cause unexpected trouble, and comfortable folding and/or erection of the seat can not be achieved, because the plate spring is wrapped around an operation shaft piercing a lock mechanism and a casing and the operation shaft is operated with a handle for locking and unlocking the lock mechanism and tensioning/relaxing the plate spring. SOLUTION: The device consists of a base fixed to the lock mechanism of the reclining mechanism, a tightly wrapped spring in the triangular shape in front view having a fixed side lock end locked to the base and a moving side lock end movable in a groove of the base, a restraining means with a first restraining part mounted on the spring and a second restraining part engaged with the first restraining part, an operation means for operating the extension/contraction of the spring, and a cover. In the device, the restraining means is locked in the groove formed on the base in such a way that it can be moved, and the restraining means can follow the extension/contraction and movement of the spring.
