An applying tool for a string, which comprises a holding article in a sponge form and, held thereby, a polymer from dimethyldichlorosilane having a viscosity of 100 cs to 1000 cs and containing an abrasive material and a pigment. The applying tool can be used for preventing the surface of a string from being marred and making the string to be less prone to twisting, to thereby improve the elasticity, the repelling power and the like of the string and also eliminate a wrong feeling at the moment of batting.
