The invention relates to a method for producing pyroGlu-MCP-1 from recombinantly produced Gln-MCP-1. According to the inventive method, Gln-MCP -1 is incubated in a buffer solution having a salt concentration ranging betwee n 10 mM and 160 mM and a pH value ranging between 2 and 7.5 at a temperature ranging between 30 ~C and 80 ~C until at least 90 percent of the MCP-1 are provided in the form of pyroGlu-MCP-1.
