SEMICONDUCTOR LASER UNIT, OPTICAL PICKUP SYSTEM, AND METHOD FOR DRIVING SEMICONDUCTOR LASER UNIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser unit which can output a high-intensity laser beam used for recording and reproducing light sources and can operate stably.

SOLUTION: The semiconductor laser unit has a semiconductor laser element 30 for emitting output and monitor lights L1, L2 respectively from output-side and monitor-side end surfaces so disposed oppositely as to constitute a resonator, a reflecting portion 50 disposed on the side of the monitor-side end surface and for reflecting the monitor light L2, and a light receiving element 40 for so inputting the monitor light L2 reflected by the reflecting portion 50 as to generate an output signal for controlling the output light L1. The semiconductor laser unit can set high the luminous energy of the output light L1 and can feed the stable luminous energy, by monitoring efficiently the monitor light L2 with the light receiving element 40.
