PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To break only a tape coating layer 5 in a section 1a to be processed of a coated optical fiber ribbon 1 without making a cut to the layer 5 at the section 1a of the ribbon 1. SOLUTION: Alcohol is applied to the vicinity 1a' of the section 1a to be processed process of the coated optical fiber ribbon 1 to reduce elastic modulus of the constituting materials of the tape coating layer 5 in the vicinity 1a' of the ribbon 1, thereby drawing the layer 5 at the section 1a of the ribbon 1 by drawing members 31 and 37, thus the section 1a of the ribbon 1 is subjected to a fiber separation for every coated optical fiber 3.
