PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a square sealed secondary battery having no fear of liquid leaks over a long period of time. SOLUTION: In this square sealed secondary battery 1, An external connecting terminal 8 is fitted to a connecting hole 7 formed through the upper part of a square battery jar 2 or a battery jar lid and connected to connecting extension parts 21 of current collectors 11 and 12 extended upward from an electrode plate group 5 in the square battery jar 2, and the external connecting terminal 8 is sealed to the connecting extension part 21 and the square battery jar 2 through a sealant 16 in the circumference of the connecting hole 7. In this battery, the connecting extension parts 21 are covered with a coating material 22 having electrolyte resistance and insulating property to prevent the connecting extension part 21 from being wetted with an electrolyte at the time of injection, so that alkali creep starts from the electrolyte in the electrode plate group 5.
