PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a work holding device facilitating adjusting a holding portion of the work, and improving productivity. SOLUTION: The work holding device 20 is equipped to a main shaft 21 of a lathe, and has a collet member 2 attached/detached to/from the work 23. A collet portion 2b of the collect member 2 is opened/closed by axial movement of an operation cylinder 3 and an outer cylinder 4. The operation cylinder 3 and the outer cylinder 4 are driven to move backward/forward between the work holding position and a work releasing position through a uniting shaft 6 and an adjusting flange 10 according to backward/forward movement of a draw bar 22. The work holding position of the outer cylinder 4 must be adjusted according to changes in a lot and shape of the work 23. In the work holding device 20, the work holding position can be adjusted by adjusting a screwing position of the adjusting flange 10 to the uniting shaft 6, and an adjustment is not needed every time the work holding device is attached/detached to a machine tool such as the lathe.
