A congestion charge payment device is provided for the payment of a congestion charge. The device is provided with the capability to send text messages and calculate its own position using a system such as the Global Positioning System (GPS). The device is also provided with information regarding the location of congestion charge areas. The device compares its position information, with the information regarding the location of congestion charge areas. If the comparison indicates that the device has entered a congestion charge area, a text message is sent to the appropriate authority in order to initiate the payment of the congestion charge fee. The device is arranged to be fitted in a vehicle. |
