The roadbed (28) is firmly anchored to the abutments (20,22) and/or ground (18), the bed so carried on the bridge supporting structure (12) as to allow slight relative movement between structure and bed (28). The bed should be firmly joined to the structure at one bearing point and runs without joins over abutments and structure. The bed is made of concrete or reinforced concrete, possibly aerated such. The bed is positively and/or negatively pre-tensioned against the abutments or between these and is prevented from change in length under temperature effect though the structure (12) can accept the length change. Sliders are provided between roadbed and structure.
