An embodiment is related to a system (1) using forward error correction (FEC) for mitigation or reduction of polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) effect of optical signals in an optical transmissive medium (60) by providing sufficient interleaving with wavelength diversity. An embodiment of the system having a tansmitter (11) and a receiver (33), each with a coder (12, 22, 38, 48) and interleaving sections (51, 52) for FEC coding/decoding and interleaving/de-interleaving, accordingly, to mitigate the effects of PMD.
